Mob boss James 'Whitey' Bulger was beaten to death in his cell!
One of the world’s most Infamous mobsters, James "Whitey" Bulger, was beaten to death in his cell last night my fellow inmates. Apparently he was unrecognisable when guards found him, after inmates used a lock in a sock to pummel his head and gouge his eyes. Yikes, what a way to go!
The now wheelchair-bound 89-year-old, who was captured in 2011 after 16 years on the run, was found unresponsive at a high security prison in West Virginia, shortly after being transferred from a Florida jail. He had only been at the Hazelton penitentiary for one day so it’s clear that someone was out to get him. An inmate with mafia ties is now under investigation for the murder, which happened just hours after Bulger was admitted to general inmate population.
Bulger was first arrested for delinquency when he was a teen, and eventually went on to be the boss of a criminal empire of loan sharking, gambling, extortion, drug dealing and murder. After he was convicted of armed robbery, he was sent to Alcatraz, which he apparently quite liked, because he popped back as a tourist while he was on the run. I don’t know if that’s brave or stupid?!
The former leader of South Boston's Winter Hill gang was also the inspiration behind the film Black Mass with Bulger being played by Johnny Depp. However, it appears as though his decades spent behind bars had given him time to reflect, because in a 2015 letter to a group of students who had written to him for a history project, Bulger wrote:
Damn, pretty crazy really - to spend most of your life as a powerful mobster only to be whacked whilst in your wheelchair at nearly 90 years old. Bit shit really.

My life was wasted and spent foolishly.
