China bans Peppa Pig for being too gangster

OK so it's not entirely young Peppa's fault; she's mostly fallen foul of a fondness in Chinese youth culture to create memes depicting her as a shehuiren - a euphemism for gangster. 

Shall we have a look at some of their efforts?  I think we should...

Weirdly, there also seems to be a bit of a craze for people to share pictures of their Peppa tattoos.

All this has led to even undoctored clips and images to be removed from Chinese social media site Douyin, along with the hashtag #PeppaPig.  According to state-run newspaper The Global Times, those responsible for this tomfoolery “run counter to the mainstream value and are usually poorly educated with no stable job," adding that “they are unruly slackers roaming around and the antithesis of the young generation the [Communist] party tries to cultivate".

Well there you are then, party's over.  Back to the iPhone factory, kids!
