Le Tissier famously put away 47 out of 48 pens (cheers Mark Crossley) during his time with the Saints. Lambert, though, didn't miss a single one in 5 years on the South Coast. 34 taken, 34 scored.
In the half-time interval of long-serving Southampton keeper Kelvin Davis's testimonial last night, the two went head-to-head...
"All night! We're gonna be here all night..."
Except they weren't. One miss from Le Tissier, and another effort saved led to chants of "shit Rickie Lambert! You're just a shit Rickie Lambert!" and a 4-3 win for the actual, good Rickie Lambert.
Still reckon a match-fit and twenty-years-younger Le Tissier would have edged it.
