The former England skipper joins the MLS club on a three-and-a-half year deal believed to be worth around £10m. A decent wedge, no doubt, but way less than he was earning at Everton, let alone United. Still, some things are more important than money, can't put a price on broadening your cultural horizons and all that...

Of course it might just be that Washington's got exceptional hoo-ers.

He leaves the Premier League having scored an impressive 208 goals in 491 appearances, and will likely make his D.C. debut on July 15th when Vancouver come to town.

Is this the last we'll see of him? Or could there be a Jermaine Defoe-style comeback on the cards?
